THE JAZZ LANGUAGE LECTURE SERIES with PMAC faculty and Guests
PMAC will host a series of Jazz Lectures by faculty and guest artists throughout the year.

JAZZ JAM SATURDAYS with PMAC’s Jazz Faculty
Chase those winter blues away (or solo over them) by joining our open 
Jazz Jam experience on Saturdays in January. Every week, explore a 
new theme with support from Jazz Institute faculty members. Open to teens 
and adults. All Instruments and levels are welcome!

JAZZ PIONEERS with Matt Langley
This entry-level jazz combo for adults explores jazz blues, modal tunes, 
and easier standards. The focus is small ensemble musicianship and improvisation. 
For early intermediate to advanced instrumentalists and vocalists new to jazz. 
Open to piano, guitar, bass, drums, woodwinds, brass, strings and vocalists.

JAZZ ADVENTURERS with Matt Langley
For those who want to play jazz in a combo setting, this ensemble focuses on past 
and present jazz repertoire and improvisation in a supportive atmosphere. The size 
and instrumentation varies from semester to semester. Ideal for intermediate players 
who read well and have some jazz and improvisation experience. Members are 
welcome to select and arrange a piece for the group. For intermediate to advanced 
jazz instrumentalists and vocalists with prior improvisation experience.

BREWERY LANE BIG BAND with Russ Grazier
PMAC’s signature Big Band experience, play in the style of Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller and more! Classics of the 1930s, 
‘40s, ‘50s, and ‘60s, plus newer music right up to today’s hits. For intermediate jazz instrumentalists. Open to drums, piano, bass, guitar, saxophone, trumpet and trombone.

JAZZ GUITAR ENSEMBLE with Jim Dozet
In this unique offering guitarists will expand their knowledge of jazz repertoire, acquire tools specific to their instrument to traverse the jazz landscape and be challenged to increase their sight-reading skills. For intermediate guitarists.

GYPSY JAZZ with Bryan Killough
The swing music of legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt has inspired a sub-genre of Jazz, known as Gypsy Jazz. Join Bryan Killough, founder of the award-winning group ‘The Hot Club of Portland,’ as he coaches this PMAC ensemble through this unique repertoire and style. For intermediate jazz instrumentalists. Open to guitar, violin, clarinet, mandolin, accordion 
and drums.

NEW HORIZONS BEGINNER GROUP with Russ Grazier
Pick up the instrument of your youth or start playing for the first 
time! This weekly group lesson will quickly get you on your way 
to playing in the New Horizons Band. Open to all adults who 
play or want to learn to play a band instrument. For adult 
beginner concert band students. Open to woodwinds, brass 
and concert percussion.

A community band that reconnects adults with the instrument they played in their youth. Recent performances have included Appalachian Spring, Pictures at an Exhibition, the Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, Marches of the Armed Forces, and a variety of popular concert and band repertoire. This ensemble performs throughout the Seacoast. For intermediate to advanced adult concert band students. Open to woodwinds, brass and concert percussion.

Adult string players come together in a small group setting to work on chamber 
performance skills; balance, listening and challenging individual repertoire.

Learn and perform saxophone quartet and quintet repertoire in a variety of styles

This class explores all aspects of bluegrass. Learn each instrument’s role in 
the band, sing harmonies, solo and explore the history of bluegrass music.

mandolin, fiddle, upright bass and banjo.

UKULELE CIRCLE JAM with Steve Roy at The Press Room
Aloha! Bring your Uke and have some fun! As a song-based ensemble, 
we will cover a wide variety of material including Hawaiian music, 
Beatles songs, old hits, new hits and more.
Held at The Press Room (upstairs) in downtown Portsmouth

DRUM CIRCLE with Jonny Peiffer
An introduction to hand drum techniques and rhythms of West African 
and Afro-Caribbean styles that laid the foundation for much of the popular 
music we know and love today. The drum circle is a very powerful, even 
trance-like experience that is essential to the tradition that has handed 
down these styles and techniques.
