"Close to Home"
This talk will present reflections on life weaving long-term projects photographing family and landscapes across New Jersey, New York and New England. After spending ten years in New York City, Michael Cardinali relocated to Boston to receive his MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. Through his camera and photography, he worked to understand this shift in cities, career and day to day life. Pictures spanning the ten years since moving to Boston were recently included in his first monograph, LOST Boston, published in 2018 by +Kris Graves Projects. This work maps the terrain of his experience slowly learning a place through inhabiting it. More recent studio work involves abstracting the landscape through still life.
