Frequently Asked Questions
Who can participate in Free Music and Art Day?
Anyone of any age, youth or adult, who is not currently enrolled in individual instruction at Portsmouth Music and Arts Center (PMAC) may take one free in-person lesson on an age-appropriate instrument of their choice.
How do I sign up?
Simply complete the online registration form with your lesson preferences. Once you submit the form, you will see a screen thanking you for submitting the form. Requests will be processed in the order that they were received.
What do I need to participate?
For music lessons: We recommend that you have an instrument in working condition (piano, guitar, saxophone, etc.) so you may get the full experience. If you do not yet have an instrument and would still like to meet with a teaching artist to learn about private lessons, that is possible. Priority will be given to students who have instruments to play during their lesson.
For visual arts: Students will use supplies in our art classroom.
What will I experience during my free lesson?
The free lesson is an opportunity for you to meet a teaching artist, learn a skill related to the instrument or voice, and answer any questions you may have about our individual instruction program.
I loved my lesson and want to continue. How do I register?
Stop by at the front desk after your lesson to get more information. A member of our admissions team will follow-up via email within a week after your lesson, and will be ready to guide you through the enrollment process.
Will I be able to study with the same teaching artist I met during my free lesson?
Possibly, if there is an appropriate opening in the teaching artist’s schedule. Otherwise we will match you up with another one of our excellent teachers.
Is tuition aid available?
Yes! Please go to our Tuition Aid page on our website and submit your aid application.
